Training

We are able to deliver a wide range of mental health and learning disability training courses across the health and social care sectors. We also offer consultation to analyse the needs of your organisation, to ensure that your employees are trained to the highest standard and meet statutory requirements. We also offer a bespoke training service, where we will personally develop training courses specific to your needs.

Our courses are commonly attended by Social Workers, Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHP), Best Interest Assessors (BIA), Nursing and Residential Staff as well as many other providers of social care services. We are also able to offer courses and modules, for AMHP and BIA training programmes as well as to multi-disciplinary staff in mental health and learning disability services.

About Positive Options
Positive Options Logo

Positive Options provides a range of specialist services to organisations in the education, social and health care sectors that support the organisation, its staff, and other carers in the course of their work with people.  Our philosophy and training practices are based upon the principles of person-centred thinking, action and excellence for all; personalisation, recovery and wellbeing.  The Company was registered as a Limited Company in England in 2004 and the founder directors and senior management team have extensive experience in working within and latterly in partnership with the education, social and health care sectors.  Since 2010 Positive Options is a subsidiary of CPI.

Positive Options portfolio includes the management of challenging behaviour, aggression and violence across the spectrum of social care, health care and education settings.  This includes offering diagnostic support; theoretical and practical skills-based strategies and training that assist the care, education and support to people of all ages who may have a variety of complex health, social, psychological, emotional and education needs.

'The Home of MAPA® Interventions'
In addition to providing a range of behaviourally-orientated education and training products, the Company is an accredited provider for the teaching of physical interventions in the management of actual or potential aggression through its MAPA® approach, which is underpinned by the philosophy of positive behaviour support and restraint reduction.  Positive Options is currently one of a proportionately small number of training and education providers that are accredited in the UK by BILD under its Physical Interventions Accreditation Scheme, and was most recently reaccredited in 2011.

The Company was associated with Keele University since 1996 for the certification of its degree-level, flagship ‘Preparation of Trainers in the Management of Actual or Potential Aggression’ Programme and since 2009 the Programme is offered in conjunction with the University of Wolverhampton. We provide a range of tailored, direct delivery programmes (‘we train your staff’) based upon service user behaviour needs assessment and staff training needs analysis and ‘train the trainer’ solutions that span the MAPA® curricular and equip staff trainers to teach the underpinning legal, ethical and professional framework governing the use of restrictive physical interventions and the spectrum of holding interventions appropriate to the needs of the organisation and its service users.

Our licensing arrangements for training trainers are offered competitively with strong levels of aftercare and added value initiatives. During 2011 Positive Options and CPI have collaborated to develop a joint solution in specialist clinical holding to deliver essential care and treatment to people who are unable or unwilling to consent to necessary treatment interventions. The training; CH-3SM Advanced Clinical Interventions, is available exclusively in the UK through Positive Options and CPI UK, which is based in Sale, Manchester, England.

We employ and work with an extensive range of ‘subject specialist’ instructors and associates and are therefore able to respond effectively to the wide-ranging needs of our customers so that in-turn they can ensure effective outcomes for the people that they work with, support, and care for. All Positive Options directors and senior staff members are qualified professionals with specialist clinical and/or senior managerial backgrounds in health and/or social care settings. Our directors are widely published in the management of challenging behaviour, aggression and violence. All of our subject specialist instructors and associates are qualified professionals in the field of education, social or health care and currently or have previously held senior professional advisory roles; all have recognised teaching qualifications.
